What does a Sheet Metal Worker do?

As a union sheet metal worker, you will belong to a skilled, technical craft that works with other building tradesmen to construct commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. Office complexes, hospitals, schools, power plants, jails, theaters, restaurants, and homes all need the services of a skilled sheet metal worker.

You will be taught the skills needed to fabricate and install all types of commercial, architectural, and industrial metal products. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and components
  • architectural metal roofing and siding
  • food service and hospital equipment
  • lockers, shelving, and partitions
  • signs

Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #12 works in conjunction with SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association) and the iTi (International Training Institute) to train, employ, and promote the sheet metal industry.

But the best part about becoming a union sheet metal worker is that all the skills and training that you need will be taught to you while you work, and at no cost to you!

If you think the prospect of making over $22,000.00 a year right out of high school, with regular yearly wage increases, and benefits like full medical coverage (after six months) for you and your family, pension and annuity for retirement, and over 800 hours of high-tech classroom instruction at no cost, sounds good to you...then read on!
